"Life"
This 9 hour event will address ‘contemporary experience’. Under pressure on some many different levels (time, attention-spans, the deep impact of media), can we still make sense of ourselves, find the neccessary sense seriousness and play to have experiences? The project will involve making a video wherein I will try to recollect my life thus far. I will think of a key episode from a particular period in my life, and then quickly write it down. I will then get several people, including myself to read the same text. We will record all the takes as the readers/actors make. I am interested in how they move from a ‘cold reading’, to a more comfortable one, and see how the text shifts from stilted, to ironic, to possibly something more acted. The camera will ‘role’ in-between the takes, so as to record impromptu comments and discussion. The video will be simple, with only incamera edits. We will move around the city as I recollect my life, shooting in whatever nearby area seems appropriate for the recollection. The event will be open to take on a different form if there is an inclination to do so. The making of this video is really a pretense for an experience.
Este evento de 9 horas se referirá a la 'experiencia contemporánea'. Bajo presión en algunos niveles muy diferentes (el tiempo, el nivel de atención, el profundo impacto de los medios de comunicación), ¿podemos tener aún sentido nosotros mismos, encontrar la seriedad necesaria en nuestros sentidos y jugar para tener experiencias? El proyecto involucrará el hacer un video en el cual trataré de recolectar mi vida hasta ahora. Pensaré en un episodio clave de un periodo particular de mi vida, y entonces rápidamente lo escribiré. Luego, juntaré a varias personas, incluyéndome a mi mismo, para leer el texto. Grabaremos todas las tomas que se hagan con los lectores/actores. Estoy interesado en cómo ellos se muevan desde una 'lectura en frío', a una más confortable, y ver cómo el texto se cambia desde lo formal, a lo irónico, a algo posiblemente más actuado. La cámara seguirá corriendo entre tomas, para grabar comentarios espontáneos y discusión. El video será simple, con sólo edición a través de la cámara. Nos moveremos por la ciudad mientras recolecto mi vida, grabando en cualquier área cercana que parezca apropiada para la recolección. El evento estará abierto a asumir una forma diferente si existe la inclinación a hacerlo. El hacer este video es realmente un pretexto para tener una experiencia.
