"1st. INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS of PERFORMANCE ART"

PerfoPuerto.org will develop the broadest international encounter in its history, which will gather the most representative of performance artists, organizers of international performance art festivals and writers/historians of the discipline, to debate about the present and future of performance art, also establishing a connection among the international and regional performance art scene, represented by the area that has become the new cultural center of the country. The Congress is to become the biggest meeting in Performance art to be developed in South America in this century, gathering artists, organizers and theoreticians of the discipline from North, Central and South America, Western and Eastern Europe, and Asia. The Congress will put in contact the most representative in the panorama of world-wide Performance art with the emergent generation of artists and organizers of performance in South America. The Congress will include work group discussions including a artists, theoreticians and organizers; public conferences, performance art documentation screenings and a live events of worldwide performance art. The Congress also includes the Third International meeting of the International Association of Performance Art Organizers (IAPAO), of which PerfoPuerto.org is an active member. This event, free for all audiences, is part of a series of international exchanges that PerfoPuerto.org has planned for the near future, and will allow a broad access to the theoretical and practical information on the discipline to students, artists, theoreticians and general public from our country.

The main topics to discuss at the Congress, besides Iapao meeting are (among others):

- The role of Performance art in contemporary art - Performance art and the Museum / Gallery circuit - The role of the body in the 21st century; performance art in virtual spaces - The archiving / documentation issue in performance art; performance art and the website archiving - International Festivals and Performance art; the role of exchange in performance art; the role of Iapao - Writing performance art history; describing performance art sensibility - Performance art methodologies and strategies; - Teaching performance art and its impact on contemporary art teaching - Feminist performance art; new women strategies in performance art.
